Member Spotlight: People’s Community Clinic

The mission of People's Community Clinic (People’s) is to improve the health of medically underserved and uninsured Central Texans by providing high quality, affordable health care with dignity and respect. People’s was established in 1970, in a church basement, with volunteer doctors and nurses. Today, we have over 300 clinic staff serving nearly 20,000 patients in five counties. Clinic programs and services follow the human life span from pre-natal to senior care.

The clinic offers a number of programs developed in response to areas of need in physical and mental health, chronic disease, family planning and other areas.

Community Impact

Central Texas has grown exponentially, and access to affordable health care has not kept pace. Particularly during the last few years of COVID, there has been an extremely high demand for services for families and individuals in need. The majority of People’s patients are under the age of 20, people of color, and living at or near the federal poverty line.

Over the past decade, as Austin has grown, so too, have the needs of the community. According to the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, the Austin Metropolitan area is expected to reach over 2.3 million by 2020. As the needs of the community continue to grow, People’s will be there as a vital safety net for thousands of central Texans.
